Widths, Scans, and Numbers - Oh my!

I stopped in my local New Balance store today to see what they had to offer.

First - great service.  I was greeted as soon as I walked in, and there were other customers in the store.

I took off my shoes and got measured, with the traditional metal foot measurer-thing.  Next, I had to step on this scanner, which showed where I put pressure on my feet when I stand.  It was really cool!  He asked me if I normally have any foot pain, and where.  Yea, Umm. exactly where it's marked in red!  I have medium to high arches.

(I do have custom orthotics, but I don't really wear them consistently.  I really should find those.  And use them.  ahem.)

He had me walk and noticed I'm an over-pronator, where my ankles turn inward, more than they should.  I tried on a few sneakers.  I love their funky colors and styles.  But I really noticed a difference in the support.  I also learned that my feet have a narrow width!  I have tiny feet I suppose.  So the narrow ones really supported and cushioned better than the regular shoes I'm used to wearing.  Plus the names of the shoes are just numbers.  O.o  Confused me a bit.  There were 860s and 1260s.  Say what?  They didn't have the color I wanted, so I came home and ordered online.  Can't wait for them to come!

I went on two jogs today!  I really should start doing more interval training, with longer stretches.  But for right now, I like going on my normal route and see how far I can go :)  Well I'm happy to say that today, run #1 was about .45 miles and #2 was a half mile!  WITHOUT stopping!  I am stoked.  It seemed easier the second time around.

I'm trying to focus on my breathing, and really just *feel* it.  I would always get obsessed with the timer of when it said to walk, when it said to jog.  Stare at the stopwatch.  I look up on google maps or map my walk, and figure out a goal, and try to go a little farther each time.  It's really very exciting!  To me, anyway.  :)  Only 12.5 miles to go!
